Crockpot Ham and Beans


“alone at last!”

When the cold weather seems to drag on, I look forward to two things: a filling bowl of comfort food and lounging in my comfy bed! With this recipe, you can enjoy the best of both worlds! Simply throw the ingredients in the crockpot and curl up under the covers while it cooks! Enjoy!

1 16oz. package of dried white Northern Beans
2-4 Ham hocks, ham shanks, or ham bone
1 small onion, diced
1/4 cup brown sugar
Salt and Pepper to taste
Water, enough to cover the beans

The night before:
Sort the beans for any pebbles. Rinse under cold water. Soak the beans in a bowl overnight. In the morning, drain and rinse before placing in the crockpot.

Add the rinsed beans, salt, pepper, onion, and ham bone/ham shanks to the crockpot. Add enough water to completely cover the beans by a few inches.
Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours, until the beans are tender. Remove the ham hocks or shanks and pull off all the meat. Throw the meat back into the crockpot along with the brown sugar. Lightly mix to combine. Serve with a delicious slice of cornbread cake! (Recipe on the way for this tasty topper)
